AdBlock 2.7.1 broken on Mac 10.5.8 Safari 5.0.6 Intel
AdBlock 2.6.37 works as normal, but upgrading to the new version 2.7.1 breaks it.
It appears to load, the options page can be loaded, but no advanced options can be selected, and blocking cannot be configured. Also one cannot install 2.6.37 over it, requiring manual removal and reload of the old version.
Perhaps this can be fixed, or at a minimum some notification provided so similar users do not upgrade.
thanks,

Hi David,
Thanks for reporting this issue.
Could you please uninstall any AdBlock from Safari and install AdBlock from getadblock.com again?
If this doesn't help, could you please send us a screenshot?
Thanks,
Tomáš

Hi
OK, this is driving me nuts. Let me explain
As i did not wish to rebuild my custom filters after experimenting with Adblock again on my normal account, i created a test account and played with that (same machine, just a new account)
On the test account, safari with only 2.7.1 adblock, works as expected !
So i decided to now set up the test account with everything i have in my personal account, settings the same, and all the extensions i run. I uninstalled adblock, installed the rest, configured them, and then installed adblock again. Darn it works as expected. ....
I have tried every setting and setup option i can think of, and it works correctly in the test account, and messes up in mine.
The big difference is the following.
On the test account, the Adblock settings page appears, with a set of tab options left to right on the top beige bar.
The top looks like
AdBlock About Filter Lists Customize Support
OK that looks good, each entry above will load the correct page when clicked etc
OK, no on my account, i get
AdBlock 3 Black Bars
When i click the 3 black bars, i get a pop up menu (same color as the top bar) but nothing in there.
After i realized the test account works correctly, i then switched back, and carefully moused over the black pop up, and found that if i was careful i could select the correct tab by guessing how far down to click.
So questions,
What would cause AdBlock to display 2 different pages, one with the tabs in letters, and one with the 3 bars and a pop up tab menu ? That might lead me to identifying the crucial issue
Second any thoughts on why the menu is blank ?
After guess selecting the tabs, it all works as expected. You just have to guess which tab entry to click again if you want to switch to another page.
thanks,
David

OK i found it !
I ended up doing a one one by elimination of each entry in the com.apple.safari.plist to find the offending setting. Turns out that it is
NSWindow Frame BrowserWindowFrame
So that got me thinking, i use my Mac like a mac, not a wiindows machine (or a phone) that is why i still work on 10.5. So that means that i use my windows as such, i never use a large window to cover everything, i use a window large enough to see what i want, and no larger. Sooooo my Safari windows are set at a modest width, so i can have many tiled on the right side of screen and be able to work on other things on the left.
Once i saw what pref setting triggered the issue, i realized what the code was doing, when the window is wide enough puts out the text tabs choices, when the window is too narrow in its opinion, it put up a menu pop up, so by widening the window the correct stuff appears.
Duh !
I never widen the windows so it did not occur to me. Sorry for that.
Now back to the problem. When the window is narrow enough to trigger the pop up menu, that is when nothing much useful happens.
I hope that helps you narrow down the problem
sorry for not trying the obvious before -- lol

Hi David,
Apologies about the late reply! Unfortunately, it looks like some of our design changes in version 2.7 are not compatible with Safari 5.0.6, which is not supported by Apple anymore.
Thank you for narrowing down the issue, but we can't guarantee that we'll have the resources to take care of it, as this is a fairly specific edge case.
