Slow on Chrome DEV
Hi there, recently I have noticed a distinct lag upon pageload when using adblock on my chrome dev channel (version 34.0.1797.2 dev).
The page takes a considerably long time to load. As soon as I disable the extension, the lag goes away. During this lag, I can't interact with the content of the page. As a matter of fact, I have tried this with adblock plus. Same thing. I think chrome has changed the way it processes some of the js content blocking that's done in your extension. I have tried this with canary build too - same result.
I am just giving you a heads up. MBPr 2013. Please let me know if this is something that's happening on my end. Happy to provide more debugging data.
Thanks :)

This is the excact same problem ive seen today an my Macbook. It is from 2010 and in use Chrome dev. I also tried Chrome Canary build and there was the problem to. If i disable the extension, everything works fine. I recofnized too, that the "Chrome Helper" uses all the CPU-Power, when Adblock is enabled.

Same issue on both Windows 7 and OSX Mavericks. Adblock considerably slows down page loading on Dev channel. Page loading is slowed down, and overall browser responsiveness also suffers--if I hit the back button, the browser freezes for a few seconds before finally loading the last page. If I hit back twice, the browser freezes, loads the previous page, freezes, and then loads the next previous page.

Hi, I have the same problem with Chrome Version 34.0.1797.2 dev on OS X 10.9.1 on a MacBook Pro4,1. Thanks!

I am facing exactly the same problems.
I have taken the liberty of including a screenshot of www.google.com homepage, with adblock paused and adblock unpaused.
This is with Version 34.0.1797.2 dev-m of Chrome on windows 7 x64 and Adblock 2.6.18

Considerable LAG in Google Chrome Version 34.0.1797.2 dev-m
I was going crazy for the past 24 Hours searching and trying to figure out this issue, I was almost about to go back to Google Chrome Stable build because it was so bad. Websites load much slower, and the biggest thing that's noticeable is I cannot scroll or even click until the website fully loads, and it's very 'jerky' and not smooth. I just disabled Adblock and found it's soooo much faster. Ironic, please fix it and if possible let me know when it's safe to reenable Adblock. Thanks.

Using version 34.0.1797.2 dev on OSX 10.9. Tracked down my issues through some sleuthing with the timeline devtool. As you can see, Chrome REALLY doesn't like what AdBlock is doing (adblock_start_common.js:102, which seems really innocuous enough).
Might be a regression issue with the Chrome dev release, but would have to cross check with the Chromium team to confirm.

AB has become extremely slow on Chrome Canary; it has worked OK before.
E.g., try http://echo.msk.ru/ or http://www.ynet.co.il/home/0,7340,L-8,00.html
Win XP SP3 + latest patches
Chrome Canary 34.0.1799.0
AB - latest version
Interestingly enough, the same has happened to ABP too. Looks like some change in Chrome triggered this.
There're no observable CPU or memory spikes, but page rendering-especially towards the end of the page-is extremely slow.

this is exactly what the dev version is for, for devs to test their extensions and make them work when the current dev version is released to the public
i'm also having the problem (on 34.0.1797.2 dev-m), had to pause the extension for now

Same issue;
Chrome 34.0.1797.2 dev-m
Windows 7 x64
Significant performance loss when cycling through tabs, opening new ones or scrolling.
Issue does not occur in stable Chrome build (32).
Issue does not occur with AdBlock disabled.

Addendum:
It seems that specifically enabling EasyList causes major lags in performance.
Running AdBlock Custom Ad Filters does not result in the same issues, nor do additional national filters or privacy filters.
Something Easylist specifically does seems to be causing the lags.

also here to report that adblock is causing massive lag in Chrome Version 34.0.1797.2 dev-m
i had to turn off all my extensions and enable them individually to narrow it down to AdBlock

Thanks Jennings, disabling EasyList fixed it for me as well on Windows 7 64-bit 34.0.1797.2 dev-m

by disabling EasyList, you might as well disable Adblock...

One more vote from a MBP 10.9 user. Chrome Version 34.0.1797.2 dev is super slow with AdBlock (or Adblock Plus) on. :(

Also MBP 10.9 user. Version 34.0.1797.2 dev - slow as hell. Had to disable.

Hi all!
This was a Chome bug, which was fixed in latest Canary release -> so it will be fixed (if it is not yet) in upcoming Dev release.
Thanks,
Tomáš

It's not fixed as of yesterday evening.
Turned AB off here. Please give us an update when it's definitely fixed, thanks.

Works fine for me on latest canary. OSX 10.9.1

Not the case with neither Windows 7 nor 8.1.
Will check again later this evening though.

Had the problem on Chrome 34.0.1797.2 dev-m on Windows 7; updated just now to 34.0.1809.0 dev-m and the problem is gone.
23 Posted by Richard on Jan 28, 2014 @ 09:10 PM
Agreed! I just upgraded to Version 34.0.1809.0 dev on OS X 10.9.1 and the problem is gone.
WooHoo!
24 Posted by wynn on Jan 29, 2014 @ 08:21 AM
I apologise.
Needed to upgrade AB on Windows 7 and needed to upgrade Chrome on Windows 8.1. Thought everything was in order. Everything is working as intended again and back to normal. My sincere apologies.
25 Posted by ryan on Jan 29, 2014 @ 03:28 PM
Performance is back to normal on the dev channel (34.0.1809.0 dev-m) on Windows 7 x64
