AdBlock is not blocking any ads
I have used AdBlock for at least a year with few problems until now. I created a new browser user profile in Chrome to try and fix "Aw, Snap!" errors and I think that is when AdBlock may have stopped working. I have tried all of your common fixes including uninstall/reinstall both AdBlock and Chrome to no avail.
The stop sign does appear in upper right corner along with the extension appearing as enabled but no ads are being blocked and the blocked ads counter remains at zero. Someone has to have run across this before? Any ideas on how to fix?
Operating System: Windows XP SP3
Browser: Chrome
Version: 29.0.1547.57 m
AdBlock Version: 2.6.4

When you uninstalled Chrome, did you tick the option to remove all settings as well? If you haven't, do so once you have signed in to Chrome (if you haven't already), however, only sync the following:
Does this help?

Yes, I ticked the box that said "Also delete your browsing data?" from the add/remove under control panel. Then followed through with the uninstall then did a re-install for chrome. I copied off the bookmarks.bak file that i had previously saved then copied it into the new default folder for chrome and renamed to just bookmarks.
I did this uninstall in both the admin account on the PC and in the limited account since this appears to be required by Chrome.

I have also noticed under AdBlock Options that the EasyList and EasyPrivacy filters continue to show "Failed to fetch this filter!". The AdBlock custom filters does show "updated 2 minutes ago". The toolbar button still says zero blocked ads on this page and zero in total.

That seems to be the problem! EasyList is the list we use to know what ads we should block.
What happens when you go to the following link:
https://easylist-downloads.adblockplus.org/easylist.txt
You should see a text file which contains something like the following:
Lines 2 (Checksum), 3 (version) and 5 (Last modified) are likely to be different to what mine says, as it gets updated very often.

Using Chrome I get an SSL Error that states:
"The site's security certificate is not trusted!"
Asks me to click 1 of 2 buttons: Proceed anyway or Back to safety. Could this SSL error be preventing the filter lists from updating?
I clicked on the above link in Firefox and it did allow me to access the link. The https is gray instead of green and says adblockplus.org which is run by (unknown) verified by StartCom Ltd.

This is most likely the case. What other extensions do you have installed (see a list at about:extensions)

I have no other extensions installed. I prefer to keep Chrome as clean as possible for highest possible speed.
I also run AdBlock on my laptop and it is working fine. I only difference is my laptop o/s is Windows XP Media Center Edition version 2002 SP3.

Hello Ray,
I think this needs to be a problem with your security sessions. Your browser doesn't accepts the SSL Certificate from the easylist filter.
I would try to whitelist the link or lower your security level.

I was able to find a workaround by clicking "Proceed anyway" through the SSL Error to the EasyList site. Keeping this tab open and then opening AdBlock Options and then Filter Lists I was able to update the filter lists by unchecking then rechecking the boxes for EasyList and EasyPrivacy. Not a clean fix but at least AdBlock is back to blocking ads. I will have to figure out the SSL error at another time.
Thanks

Hello Ray,
Good to hear that you found a temporary solution! There should be a way to 'whitelist' the link somewhere in your computer/browser, but I don't know exactly how.
Just go trough some settings and you'll find it. Or you can contact Chrome/Microsoft for it.
Kind Regards,

Jérémy: This is likely to be a issue in Chrome, rather than Windows, as it works fine in Firefox.
Ray: At about:settings > Show Advanced settings > HTTPS/SSL, is "Check for server certificate revocation" checked?

Jeremy: I am not aware of any way to 'whitelist' a site in Chrome or lower a site's security. IE8 has a way to add sites to a 'Trusted' list but I've found it doesn't work and/or is of very little use. When the site uses HTTPS you are kind of stuck if that site has a questionable security certificate.
I did notice that the site https://adblockplus.org/ can be accessed in Firefox with a gray padlock (not the ideal green) but IE8 and Chrome both display the 'servers certificate is not trusted' SSL error.
<<<<Ray: At about:settings > Show Advanced settings > HTTPS/SSL, is "Check for server certificate revocation" checked?>>>>
I've tried checking and unchecking the "Check for server certificate revocation" box in chrome://settings/ but neither way allows me access to https://adblockplus.org/ without receiving the 'servers certificate is not trusted' SSL error.

OK, Chrome may be using the IE security settings. My settings for the
Internet Zone are Medium-high, under which it works, so try lowering those
if they are at High.
