[Chrome] Waiting for AdBlock... takes too long - Still happening.
I noticed a post saying this problem was fixed in July, but I am still having to disable Adblock to get anything to load in my browser at work. I am using Chrome Version 38.0.2125.111 m on a PC running Windows 7. The machine is painfully slow as it is, but some days, "waiting for Adblock extension" brings my browser to a halt. (Today is one of those days; I had to disable Adblock to even get to this page.)

Hello,
Did you already try to reinstall AdBlock?
Kind Regards,
Jérémy K

Hi, I am having the same problem. When it is like that, I disable Adblock and everything loads perfect.
I tried reinstalling it and the problem is still here.
It started happening a week ago.

Same here. It is not specificly adblock, because tampermonkey displays exactly the same behavior.
After chrome has been open for a while (a few hours) no pages will load and it will say 'Waiting for extension X' in the bottom corner. Going to chrome://extensions/ and un-enabling and re-enabling the extension in question will solve the problem temporarily, but a few hours later the cycle will repeat.
A reinstall doesnt help. The behavior exists in both the main channel and the dev channel (last i checked.)
I'm on windows 7 64 bit, chrome 40.0.2209.0 m (64-bit), adblock 2.13.2

Is there specific site that the problem occurs on? If so, what are they?
Also, please go to AdBlock button -> Options -> SUPPORT -> "Have our team requested some debug info?" and paste it into this discussion.
Thanks.

When the problem occurs, it occurs in all tabs simultaneously. Gmail, youtube, random page - it doesnt matter. Opening new tab - i think, i'll check next time it happens - displays the start page but following a link just shows the waiting message. Closing chrome or inactivating and reactivating adblock (or whatever extension has hanged) fixes it.

Once it starts, it happens in all pages.

Same issue here.
Seems to be a bug in Chrome Dev. Must have been a change in last week or so.
Since that is when this issue started to first occur for me.
Like Zaz mentioned, other extensions are doing this as well. And same temp work around. Though I normally just kill Chrome completely and let it reload all tabs.

Anyone have time to test chromium to see if it's just Google Chrome?
And if someone has time to report a bug @ https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/list
Should also start a discussion @ https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!categories/chrome
I would do all this if I had the time.

Additional information: When it happens, two of the chrome processes listed in windows task manager claim one processor each, and stay at 25% in the list forever. Waiting doesnt help (at least waiting about 2 minutes doesnt help).

Exact same issue here. I'm also on Chrome dev. I am guessing this is a bug in Chrome if it happens with multiple extensions.

I've been experiencing this issue for about a month now but only with Adblock & Adblock plus; no others. Tested separately. Issue is with chrome for sure, not Adblock. Are they pulling a fast one?

I've made the following observations:
When an extension stalls, I can still
* open and scrolll through chrome://history * open chrome://extensions * open the options page of other extensions
I can't:
* open the options page of the stalling extension * open the 'new tab' start page
When an extension stalls that extension claims all cpu time from its current core. (It goes to 25% and stays there.) The stack debug dump seems to indicate it is in an exception handling state, but I'm not very proficient at reading low-level debug data so don't quote me on that.
I have tried to recreate the bug in chromium without success despite a similar setup and similar time spent using both browsers concurrently. Both browsers visited twitch, youtube, and other random pages, and chrome has had the bug pop up twice in two days, and chromium has stayed sane. I will post again if this changes.

I may have been premature in stating that the problem is in Chrome only, and not AdBlock or Adblock Plus because both of these extensions do share many of the same filters. I'm still betting the issue is with Chrome (and google's desire to make money on ads) ;-) but I wanted to put it out there that there is a common thread to the extensions which freeze on me.

I have the same issue with Chromium 41.0.2218.0 (64-bit) FYI.

Hi all,
This is a know issue that affects many extensions in Chrome 40+. It is caused by Chrome itself, so we recommend using a stable version for now (currently Chrome 38).
thelwell — the issue you are experiencing is probably different, can you try reinstalling AdBlock as Jérémy suggested, and let us know if it changes anything?
16 Posted by Wm on Nov 20, 2014 @ 07:37 PM
Has anybody figured out what the "known issue" is?
Is there a URL to the logged bug report / status?
Support Staff 17 Posted by Brent on Nov 24, 2014 @ 06:41 PM
I did search of reported issues on the Chromium site and found this one:
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=435122
I believe this is the issue that everyone is describing. You may want to provide your feedback and information to the Chromium team.

Since this is being track as a Chromium issue, I'm closing this discussion.
