Thanks! Can you please try following the instructions on The Safe Mac's Adware Removal Guide, running an antivirus/antimalware scan, and removing any browser extensions you don't remember installing?

Hi Gene,
First, can you tell me if the suggestions I gave you helped? Knowing that will give me a better idea where to go next.
Thanks!
Rhana

Hm. When you say "downloaded," do you mean you installed the latest release of AdBlock? We released an update to AdBlock for Safari, version 2.34, which improves the removal of pre-roll ads on YouTube. AdBlock updates automatically, but you can also update it manually.
Can you please let us know if this fixes the issue for you?

OK. I think there may be two issues here. First you were seeing pop-up ads. Did the instructions in The Safe Mac's Adware Removal Guide, running an antivirus/antimalware scan, and removing any browser extensions you don't remember installing fix this problem?
The second question you had was about removing preroll ads on videos. It looks like you're using the most recent release of AdBlock, which does feature improved blocking of these kinds of ads in Safari. If you're still seeing them, let's make sure your filter lists are up-to-date.
Can you please:

So you've done the malware troubleshooting steps and are still seeing those popups. You're also seeing preroll ads on videos with the latest release of AdBlock. Next steps:
Can you give me a link to a page where you're seeing a popup ad?
Also, a link to a video that's showing an ad?

Hi Gene,
This looks like a live chat, but it's really just email. :) We're a small team, so we don't have phone or chat support yet.
I've asked another member of our team for advice. We'll be back!

Hi Gene,
Thank you for your patience! I was conferring with a team member. In Safari, the only video ads we're able to block are those on the main YouTube site (youtube.com). If you want truly ad-free viewing anywhere else, you'll need to use Chrome, Firefox, or Opera on those sites.
The popups you're seeing aren't really ads, although they are just as annoying. If you click the "Don't show me this again" link in the popup (or whatever the actual words are; each site is a little different) and then close the popup, you shouldn't see it again unless your browser cookies get deleted.
Hope this helps. And apologies for the earlier confusion!
Rhana

Hi again,
My apologies, I was wrong. Those popups are ads. Please report this to the EasyList maintainers. You can find the contact info in our knowledge base. Please let us know how it goes, and sorry about that!

Hi Gene,
Again, my apologies for my earlier inaccurate answer. Those popups are ads and should be reported to the filter list maintainer. At this point, that's really the only thing you can do.
By the way, the text of your responses is being hidden when you reply by email. Can you please click the link at the bottom of this message next to "Having trouble reading this?" That will open this discussion in our support site, where you can reply directly if you need to. Thanks!
