All of my customizations disappeared this morning

Can you provide detailed steps on how to reproduce the problem?

  1. Open Chrome
  2. View Adblock Plus settings

What should happen when you do the above steps
I should see years' worth of custom filters

What actually happened?
That field was blank.

Do you have any other comments? If you can, can you please attach a screenshot of the bug?

--- The questions below are optional but VERY helpful. ---

If unchecking all filter lists fixes the problem, which one filterlist must you check to cause the problem again after another restart?

Technical Chrome users: Go to chrome://extensions ->Developer Mode -> Inspect views: background page -> Console. Paste the contents here:

I also have to enable Adblock on every site I visit, though in the past it
was on by default. I can find no option for this.

    Hi Richard,

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. This isn't something AdBlock would do on its own. Have you recently installed any extensions (new or otherwise) or started using any sort of browser or file cleaner/cookie manager?

No, I have not installed/used either of those. Are the custom filters
stored somewhere, like in a particular file? If so, I might be able to
    retrieve it from a backup.

Is there a setting anywhere that would cause it to be disabled by default?

    Thanks.

    Hi Richard,

If you were using Dropbox Sync, the filters would be stored in your Dropbox. Unfortunately, your settings indicate you didn't have this enabled. I also looked for previous discussions you might have created that would include a copy of the filters in your debugging information. Apparently this is the first discussion you've opened. :(

I'm asking our developers for help. I'll get back to you as soon as they respond.

    Hi Richard,

Here's our developer's suggestion. Since you created a lot of custom filters I'm going to assume you're comfortable with browser technology. If I assume too much, please let me know and I'll break the steps down for you. :)

    1. Open chrome://extensions/ and enable Developer mode.
    2. Click background page next to Inspect views: under AdBlock's entry in the list.
    3. On the new window that opens, click the Resources tab.
    4. In the Resources tab, click Local Storage on the left to expand the list. This is where AdBlock stores all of its data, including the custom filters.

With luck, there will be an entry custom_filters, which will still contain your filters.

Please let us know if your filters are there!

Yes, quite comfortable, but no, my filters weren't there. I looked in each
    tab, just to make sure.

I assume that if I had Dropbox Sync enabled, my filter list at home would
have been wiped out, too. Is that correct?

Thanks for your help Rhana. I guess I'll remove it and reinstall just to
get around it being disabled by default. I'll start over with my filters.

    Hi Richard,

I'm really sorry to hear your filters weren't there. Actually, whether syncing them to Dropbox would have just got them wiped out there as well depends on what happened to wipe them out in the first place. We think the Dropbox copy wouldn't have been affected, because the sync process probably couldn't have run after the data was wiped.

If reinstalling AdBlock doesn't seem to help, try a clean reinstall of Chrome. And if that doesn't help, please let us know!
