"Failed to fetch this filter!" Adblock custom filters (recommended) and Malware protection

"Failed to fetch this filter!" Adblock custom filters (recommended) "Failed to fetch this filter!" Malware protection Both of these go to https://adblockcdn.com/ etc (none of the other filters do and they're working OK)
Both returns "ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH" details:"unsupported protocol"
Adblock custom filters goes to https://adblockcdn.com/filters/adblock_custom.txt
Malware protection goes to https://adblockcdn.com/filters/domains.json
Switching to non-secure urls work FINE: http:// etc
Found this: http://support.getadblock.com/discussions/problems/90167-problem-to...
It matches my problem: I run XP Pro SP3 and have the update tweak, too.
But I can't comment on that discussion: "Discussions are closed to public comments."
So how's it going with this issue? The fallback to http:// seems easy enough.
Editing myfilters.js presents a problem: Adblock reports "This extension may have been corrupted."
It seems myfilters.js is checksum tested because I've tried stopping Chrome and then edit and even set size and date/time stamps to the original before restarting Chrome, to no avail.
I'd be happy to test any code change you'd like me to.
Pls get back to me!

    Hi Anders,

We're aware of an issue with fetching the AdBlock Custom filter list when running Windows XP. While we fix it, we've come up with a workaround. Can you please try this and let us know if it helps?

    1. Unsubscribe from the AdBlock Custom filter list.
    2. Subscribe to the following custom filter lists by typing the address under Custom Filter Lists:
      https://data.getadblock.com/filters/adblock_custom.txt https://data.getadblock.com/filters/domains.json

Re: "Failed to fetch this filter!" Adblock custom filters (recommended) and Malware protection Problems #90532

    The workaround link doesn't take - https://data.getadblock.com/filters/domains.json

    Referring http://support.getadblock.com/discussions/problems/90167-problem-to...
I have followed the development there.

I have been using the workaround links for several days now and the adblock_custom.txt updated right away, but the domains.json never have. I checked the option page just now for a fresh status report to you, and it says

    Custom Filter Lists
    [x] https://data.getadblock.com/filters/adblock_custom.txt updated 3 days ago

[x] https://data.getadblock.com/filters/domains.json Invalid list URL. It'll be deleted.

The "invalid" one I cannot remove - or DE-select -, so I've tried re-entering it - twice - but nothing is added and the status remains unchanged. As for the "live" one, I've tried de-selecting and re-selecting it, and it updated immediately with no problems whatsoever.

However, BOTH links open without any problem in the browser(Chrome), so I can't see why domains.json fails to load.

In addition, when "Malware protection" is selected another option is displayed: "[] Should AdBlock notify you when it detects malware? Beta"
So the question is: can I select that option given that to get to it, I have to also select "Malware protection" which fails?

And I also would really like to know how "XY Windows" is managing to EDIT "myfilters.js" because changes there doesn't take until I restart Chrome and after that, AdBlock is disabled and in the Extensions page, AdBlock is blocked and tagged "This extension may have been corrupted." The ONLY option I have is "Repair" which re-installs AdBlock destructively i.e DESTROYS ALL MY SETTINGS, "myfilters.js" included. I've looked into the matter and the "extension corrupted" is per design: you're not allowed to change extension scripts once they're installed, unless you're a Chrome developer of course(a CHROME developer: not a Chrome EXTENSION developer).

    Thanks,

I just uninstalled - COMPLETELY, even inspected the Extensions folder to verify that the AdBlock folder was gone: gighmmpiobklfepjocnamgkkbiglidom

After reinstalling and setting all options, I now have

    Custom Filter Lists
    [x] https://data.getadblock.com/filters/adblock_custom.txt updated 20 minutes ago

    [x] https://data.getadblock.com/filters/domains.json Fetching... please wait.

This is what it looked like several days ago, before it changed to "invalid". Like I said, domains.json never updates.

    And now it's back to

    Custom Filter Lists
    [x] https://data.getadblock.com/filters/adblock_custom.txt updated 3 hours ago

[x] https://data.getadblock.com/filters/domains.json Invalid list URL. It'll be deleted.

    Hi Zwaa,

My apologies! I've been informed by one of our developers that I was wrong. The workaround I gave you only works for "real" filter lists such as AdBlock Custom, EasyList, and so on. The domains.json file isn't a filter list, so the workaround doesn't work. In fact, there currently is no workaround for the Malware domains file download.

We're working on a permanent solution to this issue. We don't yet have an estimate when that will be in place.

    Hi Zwaa,

Would you be willing to help us test a possible solution? If so, please try downloading https://cdn.adblockcdn.com/filters/easylist.zip and let us know what happens.

    Thanks very much!

    Hi Zwaa,

Today we released an update to AdBlock, version 2.44, that fixes the filter list issue you reported. You should receive the update automatically within a day or two (if you haven't already received it by now).

Please let us know if AdBlock is still having trouble updating those lists!
