AdBlock disables YouTube videos when Flash is turned off.

Due to mounting concerns about the security risks associated with the use of Flash, I uninstalled Flash Player this morning. I am now unable to play YouTube videos not because of the absence of Flash, but because of the AdBlock extension. When I disable the AdBlock extension, YouTube videos play normally without Flash. Why is this happening?

    Hi Alan,

Google is changing the default video player on YouTube from Flash to HTML5. If you right-click a video and you don't see any mention of Adobe Flash, then it's using the HTML5 player.

Or are you asking why YouTube videos are playing normally with AdBlock disabled but not with it running?

    Hi Rhana,

I’m asking why YouTube Videos won’t play unless AdBlock is disabled? Why is AdBlock interfering with the playback of HTML5 video?

    Thanks,

    Alan

    Hi Alan,

    It shouldn't. Can you please:

    1. Click the AdBlock button and select Options, then click SUPPORT. Next to "Have our team requested some debug info?" click here. Paste the text from the box into this discussion.
    2. Click the FILTER LISTS tab and then click update now. Does that change anything?
    3. If the problem persists, uncheck all the lists on the filter lists page and reload the page where you’re seeing the problem. Does that change anything?
    4. If unchecking all the filter lists fixes the problem, re-enable the lists one by one, reloading the page where you’re seeing the problem after each. (Make sure to wait for AdBlock to fetch the list before reloading the page.) Which list causes the problem to happen again?
    5. If unchecking all the filter lists did not fix the problem, try the same thing with your browser extensions: Disable all of them, then re-enable the extensions one by one, reloading the problem page after each. Which extension causes the problem to happen again?

    Hi Rhana,

Thanks for following up on this issue. I have discovered that when I uninstalled Flash, I neglected to turn off ClicktoFlash. For some reason, YouTube videos would not play when both ClicktoFlash and AdBlock were running. When I disabled ClicktoFlash, videos started playing without turning off AdBlock. All is well again.

    Thanks again!

    Alan
