ad comes on screen freezing everything and warning me that malware is threatening me, also try to sell me protection.

If unchecking all filter lists fixes the problem, which one filterlist must you check to cause the problem again after another restart?

   Hi Kate,

   As you're probably aware, this is malware on your computer. AdBlock is not an anti-malware program. We can offer general advice only, but it should help.

   First, download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free for Windows and use it to scan your computer for viruses. Note, we're not affiliated with them in any way. Their software just seems to find malware that others miss.

   If it finds anything, remove it. It should definitely find something.

   This article from Google Chrome Help on how to stop unwanted pop-ups or homepage changes may also be helpful.

   Please see the following Knowledge Base articles for general information about AdBlock and malware:

   Hi Rhana,

   Firstly, thanks for the malware tip. I've installed it and it's (yay)
   stopped. I could not send a snap of it because it freezes everything and I
   always need to shut down completely when it comes up. I'm still getting
   pop ups but they don't freeze me out like the other did. It just sees to
   send a more threatening message every time. i'm so grateful for the link
   you sent. It is a trial though and i will be buying it in the near
   future. You saved the day!

   Hi Kate,

   I'm so glad I could help! But if you're continuing to get those pop-ups, that means you're still being infected by malware. You have our Malware Protection list enabled, which helps. I also suggest installing the Web of Trust (WOT) extension. It has visual indicators that can steer you away from known malware hosts and other bad sites. Again, we're not affiliated with WOT. I've used it myself for years and would never browse the web without it.

   If you are still getting pop-ups even with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, can you attach a screenshot? I'd like to see if we can figure out which kind of malware you're continuing to be infected by. Please be sure to capture the entire browser window.
