Well, if you would like to whitelist the majority of the sites
you visit and blacklist only sites with the most annoying ads, you
can do that, but you'll need to disable AdBlock's "acceptable ads"
option. That's because the Acceptable Ads filter list is thousands
of whitelist filters. Whitelist rules override blacklist ones. If
you a site you want to blacklist is on that list, you won't be able
to block its ads.

Click the AdBlock button and select
Options, then click the GENERAL
tab.

Untick Allow some non-intrusive
advertising.

Click the CUSTOMIZE tab, then click
Show ads everywhere except for these
domains.

Enter the websites where you don't want to see ads.
Those are the only sites where ads will be blocked.

Does this get you close to where you want to go? Or am I missing
the intent of your question?

Are you familiar with a program called HOSTSMAN? It uses a file
of
undesirable third party URLs and automatically routes the call-up
back to
my own computer, thus not allowing me to open it. However, it has
a
convenient feature that allows me to temporarily switch it off to
allow
access for a selected site that I feel confident to open. For
example, I
cannot open the Home Depot site that shows the little Google ad
logo, so I
must access the direct URL instead of going through this
third-party host.
I could switch it off with HOSTSMAN, but with AdBlock I would have
to make
a determination on every URL, guessing if they are safe or if they
are part
of the third-party hosts that dump malware and bloatware.

donbuelketag:old-support.getadblock.com,2013-08-06:Comment/387639482015-12-26T22:23:19Z2015-12-26T22:23:19ZAll ad site on Google now blocked

Hi Don,

I hadn't heard of HostsMan, but I looked it up. It gives you an
easy way to manage your hosts file, so that you don't have to edit
the file directly. That's pretty cool.

I'm going to change my suggestion slightly. I think what may be
more helpful for you is to subscribe to the Malware Protection
filter list in AdBlock's options, and still disable the Acceptable
Ads list.

The Malware Protection list does pretty much what HostsMan is
doing for you. It's maintained by the folks at Malwaredomains.org,
the Internet authority on malware hosts, and is updated as soon as
a new one is identified. With this list on, you won't have to guess
whether a URL is safe.

I'm still suggesting you not use the Acceptable Ads list, but
for a different reason. It contains thousands upon thousands of
whitelist rules for sites that serve ads. Since we don't maintain
that list I can't guarantee that any of those sites won't run up
against HostsMan's own filters.

I've made those two changes in the filters and I'll see what
happens.

Just a suggestion, now that I've got your ear: See if you can
program an
optional switch like Hostsman into your program in the future.
I've
uninstalled it now, hoping that with your filters and Google's
filters, all
will be well.

I'll let you know.
