users to disable it in order to access to their content (recently
youtube just decided to "punish" you by making you watch the full
ad instead of allowing to skip it after 5 seconds...).

Is this technically possible to avoid "blocking" the ad, but
rather download it, and then don't display it in the browser.
Of course, this is more bandwidth consumed — but not more
compared to the situation without adblock, and the objective is to
avoid seeing the ad for the end user. If this could be implemented
as an option (toggle between "block" or "hide"), that would be even
better.

Erictag:old-support.getadblock.com,2013-08-06:Comment/379176432015-09-14T17:26:20Z2015-09-14T17:26:20Zoption to download ads but don't display them -> avoid adblock detection by websites

Hi Eric,

There are a couple of things going on here.

Ads in YouTube videos

A bug in a recent Chrome update is the reason ads have started
appearing in YouTube videos and on Pandora. The workaround is to
disable the YouTube and Pandora apps in Chrome:

Type chrome://apps
in the Omnibox or click the Apps icon in the
Bookmarks Bar.

Right-click the app and select Remove from
Chrome.

Please see
this Knowledge Base article for details and updates.

Sites detecting AdBlock

If you're on a site that's refusing to show videos if AdBlock is
installed, please follow the instructions in this Knowledge Base
article about
websites detecting AdBlock and let us know how it goes!

A quick alternative is just to disable AdBlock on that site.
Click the AdBlock button and select Don't
run on pages on this domain, and then click
Exclude.

Download but don't display
ads?

We get lots of suggestions about this. We do hide ads that we
aren't able to prevent from downloading. There are lots of reasons
not to do it with all ads, however. One of the most important is
the one you mentioned, that hiding ads, as opposed to blocking
them, still uses bandwidth and makes pages load much more slowly.
Hopefully, however, one or both of the suggestions above will help
make this option one you won't need. :)
