Soundcloud ads

Soundcloud ads (the ones that stop your music and play an ad instead) are really annoying, does Adblock block them? I have it installed on Safari and it does not seem to block them.

Thanks

    Hi Joe,

Our team wasn't aware that Soundcloud has ads at all, unlike Pandora and Spotify. Can you please give us a link to a Soundcloud page where you're hearing ads?

Soundcloud has audio ads that interrupt you between songs. These ads will play on any account that runs ads on their music. For example, the Monstercat channel https://soundcloud.com/monstercat/tracks runs ads, and if you play a few tracks (you don't have to actually listen to them, just start one then start the next one and so on) you'll eventually run into an ad.
    Thanks,

    Hi Joe,

AdBlock should block ads pretty much anywhere. Let's try some basic troubleshooting. Can you please:

    1. Click the AdBlock button and select Options, then click SUPPORT. Next to "Have our team requested some debug info?" click here. Paste the text from the box into this discussion.
    2. Click the FILTER LISTS tab and then click update now. Does that change anything?
    3. If the problem persists, uncheck all the lists on the filter lists page and reload the page where you’re seeing the problem. Does that change anything?
    4. If unchecking all the filter lists fixes the problem, re-enable the lists one by one, reloading the page where you’re seeing the problem after each. (Make sure to wait for AdBlock to fetch the list before reloading the page.) Which list causes the problem to happen again?
    5. If unchecking all the filter lists did not fix the problem, try the same thing with your browser extensions: Disable all of them, then re-enable the extensions one by one, reloading the problem page after each. Which extension causes the problem to happen again?

I hear the ads only when using Safari.

    Hi Joseph,

Hm. OK, this may sound a little strange. The next time you hear an ad, can you please right-click the music player and let us know whether the context menu mentions Flash?

It does not mention flash. When I click “block this ad”, the whole music player disappears, which is kind of a problem.

    Hi Joseph,

Safari puts a lot of limitations on what resources we can block. For instance, we can't block ads in Flash videos and games, unless they're on YouTube.com. That's why I asked you to check whether the music player uses Flash. It doesn't look as if it does. Still, this may be another case of something Safari just will not let us get to to block it. We don't like it either! It's Apple's decision how much of its applications it allows developers access to.

In these cases, our best recommendation is to watch videos (or in your situation, listen to SoundCloud) in Chrome instead. You can still keep Safari as your primary browser for everything else.

Please see this Knowledge Base article for details: Ads are showing in videos and games in Safari

I usually do, but when I’m going through my stream quickly and swapping through tracks, Chrome sucks up a LOT of CPU, which causes my Macbook’s fan to go nuts. This doesn’t happen on Safari. I don’t get ads too often anyways, so I guess I’ll just stick with it.
