Integrating a donation tool with adblock

I'm a professor at MIT who's been working on a free/open source plugin for delivering donations to content creators. Since Adblock asks its users for donations, I suspect you share my belief that donations are a better support mechanism for content than ads. Our tool, Tipsy ( http://tipsy.news/ ) tries to take the hassle out of donating (budgeting, signing up, deciding who's deserving).

I'm posting here because I believe that Tipsy is a natural complement to Adblock and tools like it. I think that there's a significant correlation between those of us who reject ads and those of us who would like to donate. So I'd like to explore the possibility of bundling these two pieces of functionality together. Would you be interested in suggesting to users that the install Tipsy when they install Adblock?

I think in the long term there are some even deeper connections. For example, a site that knows a user is donating through tipsy might voluntarily deactivate ads to speed up page loading. But in the short term, I'm just interested providing this donation option to people blocking ads.

    Hi David,

What an interesting idea! I'll pass it to our management for a response and let you know if we would like to explore a partnership. And thank you for thinking of AdBlock!
