Facebook and its everchanging right side ads
Hello!
I have had problems with Facebook for some time now. The ads on the
right hand side are coming back every day basically with the
exceptions of most of their pictures, som ads have a
picture but most have just text and a blank space where the picture
should be. To fix the problem I can go into setting for adBlock and
take "update lists now" and when I reload Facebook everything is
back to normal. But I would like them to never appear in the first
place, having to go into settings everyday and update is a
problem.
I have seen that some other people have the same problem and that
they should report in using the adBlock report-tool. This, however,
wont help since the first suggestion there is to update the lists
and when that is done the ads are gone and I cant really report
anything that isnt there anymore.
I have been trying to figure it out myself and found out that they
change the pathing to their ads all the time which maybe makes it
hard for adBlock to recognize?
Would be glad for some help here! :)
Happy new year!

Hi!
The reason that updating your filter lists fixes the ads (it can also be
done from AdBlock Button > Options > Filter Lists), it that the Filter
Lists, who make the lists of ads we must block, have already updated their
filters. The lists should automatically update every few days.

Yes I understand thats why it is working. My question or request is about if there is either a way to update my lists automatically every time I start the app or every day, or some way to block that part of the site even if there's a new ad-link.
I did not know that the lists updated every few days, I have gone in there and it havnt updated for a couple of months sometimes. This was a while back though, before I had to update my lists manually every time I start the browser. Is there some setting for this that I have missed maybe? :)

That seems strange - the lists have code in them which tells AdBlock how
often to update. You shouldn't have to manually update them.
The reason we can't include an option to check every day is because that
would create a huge amount of traffic to the filter list websites.

Okay. So Facebook have found a way to go around AdBlock?
This is an example of the ads:
The _xxxx is where they change it all the time. I have blocked plenty of those but they just change it and it comes right back. Have you heard of this before?

This is an example of the ads:
.<.div class="_42ef"><.div class="_5vwj"><.div class="_5vwk">Stuff you don't want or need!<./div><./div><./div>
(without the dots ofc but it wouldnt work otherwise :P)

Hello again.
I just want to know if my AdBlock is defective or if Facebook have found a way around it. If you need me to try and find additional information about this, please let me know and I will do so.
Thank you.

Can you try updating your ad blocking filters at AdBlock button > "Options"
> "Filter lists" > "update now" and let us know if this makes the ads
disappear?
12 Posted by Toste Staver on 14 Feb, 2014 04:39 PM
Yes, it does make them disappear but only for a few hours, a day at most. That's why I initially asked if there were an auto-updated feature :)
Anything else you need?
Cheers

7 What version of your browser is installed?

AdBlock-filter
EasyList
Swedish
https://easylist-downloads.adblockplus.org/fb_annoyances_full.txt
The ads are gone right now so I will have to try next time they come back, probably tomorrow.
Version 2.6.18
See 3.
As a note on 2., as you can see I have tried to block it a few times until I realized they changed it all the time and what I didnt wouldnt matter.
Updated by crazyskeggy to make custom filters easier to read

Can you try adding the following filters to your custom filter list: (at AdBlock button > Options > Customise > Edit)
Make sure to remove all of your current Facebook filters as well.
Does this work?

Hello!
It does seem like its working, believe it or not :)
I won't get too excited before it has worked for a couple of days but your filter should be enough, logically, I agree.
From earlier:
3. It did not help. At least the filters blocked the pictures of the ads, but without it got worse.
5. I did make a screenshot if you still want it.
Thanks very much for your time and fantastic product. It makes Internet a much better place :)
Many thanks
