I've been really really busy these last days.
Busy helping people removing malware from their computers.
Would it be possible to recommend people to perform a malwarescan before contacting the filterlist maintainer with the conclusion it's the filterlist maintainers fault ads doesn't get blocked ?
Perhaps Adblock could make some sort of affiliate deal with http://malwarebytes.org and http://www.lavasoft.com/

Best regards

    Hi! Sorry for the trouble!

This is strange - I'm sure we used to have a question in the Ad Report wizard which asked people if they were seeing ads everywhere - meaning that it's likely the fault of malware.

I'll look into the code and see if it got removed at any point.

    Hi again!

I've found the code change - it's from a while ago, but as it's on our old SVN repo on Google Code, you can find it here:
    r5089

and the related issue to go with it:
    GC Issue 7240

It seems that we were having problems with the old malware checking step, as apparently "some users aren't answering that step correctly".

By the way, you're not alone - we have been having problems with some users beginning to report BetterSurf and CouponDropDown ads to us, but we're just pointing them to http://malwaretips.com as they have instructions for removing the malware for most computers.

This has been passed on to other members of our team, who my provide their views on this.

http://malwaretips.com/ looks way to complicated for the kind of users contacting me :-)
I really think direct links to a few good products would help.

The latest version of AdBlock now asks Windows users to scan their computer for malware if they're seeing same/similar ads on every page, due to the large amount of malware-related ad reports.
