loud yellow banner if you're found to be using AdBlock or the like
in your browser. The banner briefly puts the usual argument in
favor of advertising, and offers to unblock the site's ads
clamoring to be set free. This morning AdBlock identified 22 such
ads awaiting liberation.</p>
<p>AdBlock does neatly eliminate the pop-up for the current
session. But the div id value changes for each session, so that the
next Cnet newsletter has the banner again. Is there any way to nail
this annoyance permanently?</p>
<p>The banners appears to come from an small company in Calais.
Their web site is adunblock.com. So far I have encountered their
banner only on the French Cnet site, but of course it may be
present in other countries. And it is easy to imagine a more
agressive version which would not only detect ad-blocking but
disable it, an advertiser's dream.</p></div>Ed Troupetag:old-support.getadblock.com,2013-08-06:Comment/336947252014-07-08T17:08:03Z2014-07-08T17:08:03Zhow to block adunblock ?<div><p>As this is an English site, I'd recommend you contact EasyList
at <a href="http://forums.lanik.us">http://forums.lanik.us</a> as
they make many of the lists of ads that we use.</p></div>Kierantag:old-support.getadblock.com,2013-08-06:Comment/336947252014-07-09T17:48:28Z2014-07-09T17:48:28Zhow to block adunblock ?<div><p>Sorry, I'm a bit mystified by "<br>
<br>
<em>As this is an English site</em>" — does "this" = Cnet
France? AdBlock? adunblock?</p>
<p>English or not, forums.lanik.us provides scripts, including some
(in<br>
French) for adunblock. A word or two about *using *scripts with
AdBlock<br>
might be useful, don't you think? Or am I intruding on a private
club?</p></div>Ed Troupetag:old-support.getadblock.com,2013-08-06:Comment/336947252014-07-10T16:34:04Z2014-07-10T16:34:04Zhow to block adunblock ?<div><p>Apologies - I just saw Cnet later on - EasyList make our French
list as well, though. The best thing to do is report the problem to
them, and link here if you can.</p>

<p>Let us know how it goes!</p></div>Kierantag:old-support.getadblock.com,2013-08-06:Comment/336947252014-07-10T22:16:38Z2014-07-10T22:17:02Zhow to block adunblock ?<div><p>The latest development is that the banner now appears to have
disappeared<br>
from Cnet France. My surmise is that I was not alone in finding
it<br>
objectionable and Cnet got an earful from their subscribers. Or has
AdBlock<br>
already implemented a solution?</p>
<p>The adunblock problem was discussed (in fairly fluent French) in
the<br>
EasyList forum from September last year to March this year. I
remain<br>
ignorant of how the various codelines proposed might be applied.
Sorry, I<br>
am about to depart on vacation — this is <em>France</em>
after all — and do not<br>
propose to bone up on it now.</p>
<p>I don't suppose the adunblock issue is restricted to this one
instance or<br>
this one country. If it is indeed a widespread problem it may be
of<br>
interest to your development team to come up with a way to counter
the<br>
unblockers. If not, I can tolerate adunblock and its cousins...
provided<br>
they remain as polite and unagressive as adunblock currently
is.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, I appreciate your excellent product. Best wishes to
the team<br>
that works on it!</p></div>Ed Troupe
