Option: Block ad, but still download
It would be nice if there was an option (disabled by default) that allowed me to download the ads, but not view them. Occasionally I get an website scolding me for using adblock(haha, I just block the scolding) I assume by noticing I didn't download the ad. This would help prevent those messages (and potentially other sites that might restrict content if you have adblock), and still let sites get their precious precious advertising pennies.
Anyway, just a thought. Thanks for all your hard work, I'll send another donation your way tonight after work.

Unfortunately, this is considered fraud, so we can't do that. :(

Ah weird. Not sure how it would be fraud, but I suppose its best not to risk it. :) Thanks anyway!

It is considered fraud because the companies who pay to have their ads
shown are paying, but the ads don't get shown. it's like if an ad company
pays a TV channel to show their ad during an ad break, and the channel
takes their money and never shows the ads to the viewers. it's the same
concept.

Yeah, but you aren't making money off of it, I'm not making money off of it, and neither of us has a contract saying we have to accurately let anybody know how many ads we looked at. If a company is paying money for the ads and are getting the wrong numbers, that isn't my responsibility. I have nothing to do with the transaction.

That is the opposite of blocking. To HIDE ads consider using
Styles
or
UserScripts
Both are available to: firefox, chromium. Chrome is derived from chromium (evil is added)
alternatively whitelist the given site then use Element Hiding. Again, this is entirely contrary to adBLOCKing.
One can write filters to remove such offensive page elements ;)
As you have discovered. Consider contributing your element blocks to a popular subscription manager.
Better filtering prevents this LOSING arms "race".
Why tolerate being privacy raped?!?
It is not.
... by the irrational or mentally weak.
sure
That would be fraud BUT NOT a valid adblock analogy.
Interweb viewers are not in a contractual relationship with content in the PUBLIC sphere. Those not wishing their content to be in the PUBLUC sphere can easily setup a pay wall. But they don't want to discover that no one is willing to purchase what they espouse to be content.
"we're losing money"
Make better content. Actually-compete in the free market. Decrying adblock is not far removed from the poor craftsman blaming his tools.

Philosophical arguments aside, we'd really just rather not be a lightning rod for unsettled legal precedents :)
